ModUP is certified as a Core Service Agency (CSA) by the District of Florida Department of Behavioral Health, operates as a Medicaid Free-Standing Mental Health Center (FSMHC), and accepts a range of commercial health insurance plans. ModUP offers two primary categories of treatment services: Outpatient Clinic Services and Care Management.
OUTPATIENT CLINIC SERVICES
Diagnostic Assessment (Intake):
The first step in care planning at ModUP is a comprehensive diagnostic assessment. This includes gathering a detailed psychosocial history with a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), followed by a diagnostic review by a psychiatrist or Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. When someone with mental health concerns reaches out to ModUP, we typically arrange an intake appointment within a week. Intake staff and the client work together to assess needs and set initial recovery goals, creating a tailored Recovery Plan. The next step involves meeting with a ModUP psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner to confirm the diagnosis and outline a psychiatric care plan, which may include medication to address mental health symptoms.
Counseling and Psychotherapy:
Individual counseling or psychotherapy is one of ModUP’s most sought-after services. We offer various therapeutic modalities, emphasizing short-term, solution-focused methods. Our clinicians specialize in cognitive-behavioral and trauma-informed strategies, as well as other evidence-based approaches. Certified Addiction Counselors are available to provide both individual and group counseling for alcohol and drug use, including cases where addiction co-occurs with conditions such as depression, anxiety, or PTSD.
Medication Management:
For many clients, optimal mental health treatment involves a combination of therapy and medication management. ModUP provides access to a team of highly qualified psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners. While some clients choose to continue maintenance care with their primary care provider, ModUP offers follow-up and medication monitoring as long as needed.
CARE MANAGEMENT SERVICES
For individuals with complex needs, ModUP provides care coordination and management services. Many of our clients require support with housing, disability benefits, or linking to primary care. ModUP offers several tiers of care management services: Community Support Services, Integrated Primary and Behavioral Health Care (Medicaid Health Homes), Assertive Community Treatment (ACT), and Private Pay Intensive Case Management (ICM). Each care management package includes access to a 24-hour on-call service, providing immediate phone consultation and in-person assistance when directed by a licensed mental health professional. Specialized care management is also available for those involved in the criminal justice system, experiencing homelessness, dealing with co-occurring disorders, or in transition to adulthood (ages 17-25).
Community Support Services:
ModUP’s Community Support Services, available under the DBH Mental Health Rehabilitation Service (MHRS) benefit, assist over a thousand individuals. This model emphasizes skill-building for recovery and self-management. Community Support Workers (CSWs) help clients achieve their goals by providing direct assistance or connecting them to additional resources. Goals may include developing independent living skills, finding housing or employment, managing finances, or accessing medical care. CSWs provide personalized support to enhance clients’ independence and self-sufficiency.
Health Home/Integrated Primary and Behavioral Health Services:
Health Home services are an enhancement for DC Medicaid beneficiaries, integrating physical and behavioral health care through a team approach. These services include nurse care managers and physical health specialists to ensure best practices in health integration. ModUP’s Health Home program aims to improve health outcomes, manage chronic conditions, and reduce avoidable hospital visits by offering monthly support.
Assertive Community Treatment (ACT):
The ACT program is an intensive, evidence-based approach for individuals with severe psychiatric disorders. Recognized on SAMHSA National Registry of Evidence-Based Programs and Practices (NREPP), ACT is highly effective for clients who need ongoing, frequent support due to uncontrolled symptoms or repeated hospitalizations. This high-intensity team-based approach provides consistent, individualized support for clients needing multiple weekly contacts.
Intensive Case Management—Private Pay (ICM):
ModUP offers private pay options for Intensive Case Management for clients not covered by DC Medicaid. For those with commercial insurance, which often only covers traditional clinic services, ModUP team provides essential community-based support, bridging care gaps—particularly after inpatient stays or in situations where housing stability is needed but not covered by insurance. Our billing office is ready to work with clients or families to negotiate contracts with insurance providers beyond standard benefit packages where possible.
With these comprehensive offerings, ModUP stands as a dedicated partner in mental health and recovery, delivering high-quality, personalized services to meet diverse needs.
