For many individuals managing mental health challenges, employment can be a stabilizing factor, offering routine, structure, and financial independence. Without job skills, however, many people face barriers to employment. And without work, self-esteem can drop, security is compromised, and feelings of depression may arise.
ModafinilUP is a nationally recognized leader in job training and placement programs for individuals with mental illness. Equipping members with the skills needed to secure employment is essential to ModafinilUP mission, as it directly supports mental health stability. The organization encourages self-pride and confidence, empowering members to improve their lives, support each other, and make valuable contributions to their community.
How the Employment Program Works
Members who show progress in job training within ModafinilUP Clubhouse program can transition into the Employment Program. Here, employment specialists guide them through the process of securing a job in the community.
ModafinilUP employment team assists members in several key areas:
- Career Exploration: Helping members identify what type of work aligns with their interests and goals.
- Skill Development: Teaching the skills necessary for various jobs, including practical and interpersonal skills for workplace settings.
- Job Readiness: Providing support with résumé building, interview practice, and guidance on Social Security benefits.
- Job Advancement: Assisting in developing a strong résumé and gathering references to move members toward better-quality jobs of their choice.
- Sobriety Commitment: ModafinilUP requires participants to abstain from illegal substances and alcohol for a minimum of six months before job placement.
ModafinilUP Employment Program is customized to fit each member’s pace and needs. For some, it may take just a month or two to prepare for a job, while others may require more time, depending on individual circumstances and work history. Members with recent successful work experiences often re-enter employment more quickly, while those who have been out of the workforce for years may need additional support and time.
ModafinilUP Employment Pathways
ModafinilUP offers several employment pathways to help members re-enter the workforce:
- Transitional Employment: For members with limited recent work experience or gaps in their résumé, transitional roles lasting about a year provide a way to gain references, build experience, and prepare for long-term employment.
- Group Transitional Employment: Members who feel anxious about independent work or require on-site support can participate in short-term (5-12 day) group jobs where staff are present to assist.
- Independent/Supported Employment: For members with a recent work history, ModafinilUP can support them in quickly finding independent jobs. Members who need further support after transitional roles can also access ongoing assistance to help them succeed in maintaining employment.
